You bring up some good points for debate. Especially the issue about subsidising religous schools. Personally I think this can be worked out.
I thought this was a very good article that showed both sides fairly.

an excerpt:
"If you ask people whether their tax dollars could be used to pay religious school tuition, most would say absolutely not. But are they correct?
Maybe, maybe not. Taxpayer dollars are presently being used to pay tuition at large numbers of private and religious schools this very day. How can that be? Doesnt the US Constitution prohibit such spending?
Well, the first amendments Establishment Clause of the US Constitution reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". What does that mean? Does it mean that tax dollars for tuition in religious schools is prohibited? Apparently not. The GI Bill of the 1940s authorized money for returning veterans to attend the college of their choice. Large numbers of veterans chose private, religious schools. Today, the federal government provides Pell grants and student loans to pay college expenses at any accredited college that the student selects. So it seems that the first amendment does not prohibit such use."
I didn't spend a whole lot of time researching but early results showed about 30% of all private schools were secular. 70% religous. That is in keeping with the public at large. So non religous folks shouldn't be forced to attend religous schools.
Also in our economy a demand for secular private schools will undoubtly be filled if it arrises.
As far as teachers being paid low wages. You can post articles writtin by teachers unions that say that and I can post articles posted by others that say its bullshit so lets just agree to disagree ).
Private school teachers who get paid less on the whole are happier with their jobs and do a better job teaching kids.
