SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Doctors in the Dominican Republic have begun a risky operation on a baby girl who was born with a partially formed second head.
The team of surgeons operating on Rebeca Martinez is led by Jorge Lazareff of the UCLA Medical Center. Lazareff also headed the operation to separate conjoined Guatemalan twin girls two years ago.

Doctors expect it will take about 13 hours to remove the girl's second head, which has a partially formed brain, eyes, ears and lips.

They say the second head -- which is attached facing up on top of the first -- has been growing, and would prevent Rebeca's brain from developing if left unchecked. In addition, it's maniacal laughter was starting to disturb the neighbors, who complained to police.
